Teaching spelling so it ‘sticks’

Explore best practice in teaching spelling to pupils in KS2.

With reference to research and new and updated SLN resources, the course will help you understand what a good spelling programme from Year 2 into KS2 looks like and how a successful series of lessons could be structured.

There will be opportunities to share good practice and attendees will be encouraged to develop a whole KS2 approach to the teaching of spelling in KS2 so it ‘sticks’!

Course contents will cover:

Research on how children learn to spell and evaluate what approaches are most effective when teaching spelling
Exploration of a complete spelling curriculum from SLN with editable PowerPoints to support the teaching of spelling
Explore practical ways to include the statutory word lists within a spelling programme
Suggestions on how to include meaningful assessment
Time to develop an action plan for your own practice or Key Stage
Opportunities to share good practice and network with members
This training is delivered via Zoom and the materials referenced will be available digitally.
