Since forming in 2008 in Tuscaloosa, AL, Gideon has carved a distinctive path in the metalcore world by pushing boundaries and refusing to conform. Founding member and drummer Jake Smelley, vocalist Daniel McWhorter, guitarist/vocalist Tyler Riley, and bassist Caleb DeRusha have consistently evolved their sound, blending metalcore with elements of melodic hardcore and punk. After releasing three acclaimed albums—Costs, Milestone, and Calloused—they signed with Equal Vision Records, debuting with 2017’s Cold and following it with Out Of Control in 2019. Just as their momentum was peaking, the pandemic abruptly halted their tour, leaving them disillusioned yet determined to persevere. That resilience culminated in their sixth album, MORE POWER. MORE PAIN., recorded with Randy Lebouef, a searing record born from frustration and transformation. The album’s first single, “Too Much Is Never Enough,” embodies the band’s fiery spirit and relentless drive, with McWhorter snarling, “Nothing was given to me, that shit was earned the hard way.” Thematically, it anchors the record’s core message—channeling adversity into strength. As Riley explains, the album is a testament to perseverance, defiance, and reclaiming purpose despite doubt and struggle. Tracks like “Locked Out Of Heaven,” the explosive title track, and “Back To Basics” pulse with the same unfiltered energy and intent. With MORE POWER. MORE PAIN., Gideon doesn’t just revisit their roots—they sharpen them, delivering a visceral, unapologetic declaration of who they are and what it’s taken to get there.
