Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop: Writing About Art
25$ suggested donation (goes to the Alliance for the Great Lakes)
Participants in this workshop are invited to Write Ekphrastic Poems about peaceful waterscape paintings currently on display at the Grove Gallery in Evanston, IL. The workshop will be led by Virginia Bell, PhD, Professor at Loyola University Chicago & DePaul University and co/editor of the Rhino Poetry Journal.
Ekphrastic poetry is a form of writing that describes, discusses, or is inspired by a work of visual art. The term originates from the Greek word "ekphrasis," meaning a vivid description. Today, poets who practice ekphrasis don’t merely describe art but react to, debate, or challenge it, or use art as a springboard to explore memory, emotions, ideas, and social/political events. The paintings on display in the "Flow: the Water Show" also address climate change and environmental concerns.
Participants should bring a pad or laptop for writing and a pen/pencil.
