Roving Park Players presents: The pillar of classic literature and queer resistance, The Importance of Being Earnest, set in the 24th century!
Written at a time when being gay was illegal, to be "earnest" at the time was slang for being secretly homosexual. Oscar Wilde was imprisoned shortly after its debut. This 19th century comedy continues to be one of the most performed plays of all time.
Now set in the far future by local activist, Yeehaw Being, our rendition breathes fresh life into this classic and causes us to ask not only what is gender or what is taboo, but also, what does it mean to be important, to be truthful or to be earnest?
All performances are TOTALLY FREE and performed outside in the parks of Eugene and Springfield! The 75 minute show is totally family friendly. All shows start at 6pm at the following dates and locations:
*Thursday, June 5 & Friday, June 6: Maurie Jacobs Park in Eugene. There is a parking lot at the end of Fir Ln. (Off River Rd.) Our performance will be down the bike path, close to the end of N. Grand St. by the newer playground. (6pm)
