Hello lovely Muddy Hikers :-)
You are invited to join us on this classic and very pretty Halloween 19km autumnal walk through the wonderfully spooky Epping forest where the famous highwayman Dick Turpin who joined Gregory Essex gang went into robbery and hid in the spooky Epping forest whilst riding on his beautiful horse Black Bess.
Richy will happily tell us more about Dick Turpin's life as he is also from Essex ;-)
Start: 10am outside Theydon Bois tube station
Distance: 19km
Difficulty: intermediate with no hills, only small ups and downs
Finish: at around 6-6:30pm at Buckhurst Hill station if not going to the pub for dinnerwith us.

Well behaved dogs are very welcomed :-) Please note you may need to put your dog on lead at times, especially as we walk through the Epping Forest.

We will cover big part of this vast forest and explore the following areas:
- Before we start, we stop in famous Brick lane bagel shop to get our coffees, breakfasts, lunches if you wish (their bagels are amazing) so please expect to hang around a little until everyone is served (the queue can be quite long there)

- Deer Sanctuary, Birch Wood as part of the Oak trail
- Loughton camp & Debden slade
Iron Age hillfort that just exudes history. Local legend has it that Boudicca used this camp during her infamous rebellion against the Romans in AD 61. Another site close by claims to be the site of the defeat of Boudicca. Although there isn’t any hard evidence to support this claim, we can say for certain that it’s in a very strategic position.)

- Grimston's Oak
- Strawberry hill ponds
- Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge (Built by Henry VIII in 1543 and later renovated by Elizabeth I, it’s a remarkable and rare survival of an intact timber-framed hunt standing still surrounded by its medieval royal hunting forest.)

**GUIDED HIKE FEE**
£10 - please message us for bank payment details. Your space is only confirmed after payment!
The £10 fee includes 2 lowland leaders, 1st aid kit, admin fee, 2 outdoor 1st aiders, cost of pre-walking the hike and public liability insurance. It excludes train tickets, meals etc.
**GROUP SIZE**
We try to limit our group to max 15 hikers but if you hiked with us before, we won't say no to you even if we are fully booked 🙂
**MEETING**
Meet us directly outside Theydon Bois tube station at 10am (Central line) or directly at the Brick Lane Bagel Co shop which is just around the corner from the station (please message me where to expect you)
You will end at Buckhurst Hill station at around 6-6:30pm (Central line) if not going to the pub with us.
If driving, park at Theydon Bois Tube station car park (quite a large car park) and when we finish the walk, make your way back to your car by tube from our end station Buckhurst hill (only 3 tube stops back)
**WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU**
Packed lunch, snacks, coffee, tea, soup in a flask, lots of water, suitable clothing and footwear and mat to sit on for our lunch time in the nature.
*HIKE GRADE*
19km - intermediate with no real hills ;-)
Reasonable fitness, steady feet and robust hiking boots are needed for this hike!
