Clare Arts Office in conjunction with Clare Museum is delighted to present “Something for Everyone” an exhibition by Mid-West Branch of Irish Patchwork Society.
This exhibition showcases a selection of small quilts by their members made over the last number of years. There are quilters of all skill levels and abilities, from new and novice quilters to professionals, covering every style from traditional to art quilts and everything in between.
The Mid-West Branch are a group of approximately 50 enthusiastic Patchworkers and Quiltmakers who enjoy sharing their makes every month from September to June on the third Saturday of the month. Their meetings take place at Ballybrown Community Centre in Clarina (V94 F5EY) and their meetings starts at 10.30am and guests are very welcome.
Featured is a quilt by one of their members Tracy Watson titled “Petals & Thorns”. Tracy Watson has been a member of the IPS for 20 years and working with textiles and sewing since she was a child. As a retired Environmental Scientist and keen conservationist gardener the natural world features frequently in Tracy’s work. Her love of colour, curved piecing and free motion quilting are indicative of her style and work. Tracy has recently embarked on a Masters in Creative Practice at Atlantic Technological University in Galway to further explore textiles as a medium for illustrating and communicating environmental issues.
‘Petals and Thorns’ is a small much-loved piece which hung in Tracy’s mother’s bedroom. The roses, inspired by Charles Rennie McIntosh and the Art Nouveau style, are appliqued on to a background of coloured graded curved piecing. The small red thorns within the beautiful garden of roses a reminder that life can hold surprises and should be treated with gentle loving care.
