Palestinian Surf Cinema

A night of Palestinian Cinema and feature presentation, documentary: Gaza Surf Club followed by words from the artists.

Let's get together and take care of surfers across the water! Screening short films crafted by LOCAL Palestinan Surfer filmakers!

ALL proceeds will be gifted to relatives within the surf community currently besieged in Gaza. This event is organized by Banat El Waves and PaliSurfer Chicks at Threadspun and Atacma Surf Shop on Payómkawichum and Kumeyaay Homeland(commonly referred to as Encinitas) .

Tickets: $22, additional donations accepted at event!

Shorts 6PM: Don't Be Long, Little Bird by Reem Jubran (2025, Palestine/USA, 23m)

• A young woman with a rebellious spirit accidentally travels through time to 1930s Palestine and spends a few days with a similarly spirited young woman…her great-grandmother when she was her age.

The Sea is Ours by Banna Bazzarie (2025, USA, 4m)

• The Sea Is Ours uses abstract images of the ocean to present emotions of beauty, light, and steadfastness. However the darkened cover of "Ya Tali'een El-Jabal" represents the emotion of struggle, loss, and mourning. Ya Tali'een El-Jabal is a Palestinian folk song which was sung by women to their imprisoned loved ones. The song has resurfaced in a strong manner throughout the global uprising for Palestine to emphasize the original message; resistance, hope, and freedom.
  

Feature Presentation:6:45 GAZA SURF CLUB by Philip Gnadt and Mickey Yamine (2016, Palestine, 1h36m)

• In an occupied territory, Gaza's youth are drawn to their beaches. Weary of the daily 'state of emergency' they seek meaning and perspective to their lives through surfing.

Followed by Talks by directors Reem Jubran and Banna Bazzarie
