Visit the Havilah Beardsley House for a special traveling exhibit!
Most people today are familiar with maps as tools used to locate a specific destination or for figuring out a route from point A to point B. Before today's more modern tools like apps and the internet, people relied on printed maps and mapmakers for a variety of reasons.
This exhibit shows maps used as documentation, tools, political images, and even art. Maps reflect the needs of the people who create and use them -- from topographical to transportation maps. They can depict areas as large as the world or as small as a neighborhood.
Indiana Through the Mapmaker's Eye explores how maps can show how an area developed throughout the years, showing how counties were drawn, land was seized, and infrastructure was created.
Tours of the Havilah Beardsley House are Tuesday-Saturday on the hour at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm, or Sunday at 1, 2, and 3pm. Call (574) 264-0330 to make a reservation.
