We've lost count, but it's our "somethingth" Dog Day celebration of Hoomans' Best Friends -- our canine companions and slobbery soulmates, DOGS!
On hand (or, paw?) this year will be:
Mobile Mutts Dog Rescue, with adorable adoptable dogs!
The Elgin Lions Club and Leader Dogs for the Blind, with an information booth on their work, and a Leader Dog in training!
Author and Storyteller Phil Brakefield (The Philly Kid Chronicles: Life, Dogs, and Rock and Roll), with heartwarming stories of his unblemished record of Foster Fails (that's when you take a dog in "temporarily" and realize you could never, ever give it up)!
And it wouldn't be Dog Day without Chance the Comfort Dog and a K-9 Officer from the Elgin Police Department!
Plus, there is a Dog-themed Scavenger Hunt for kids, Dog merch in the store, and there will be a Doggone Dog Song Singalong!
The event runs during usual Saturday hours of 12-4; Standard museum admission applies -- $3 Adults, $2 Kids 3-12 and Seniors 60+, and FREE for Museum Members, Kids under 3, and Elgin Township Senior Access Passes.
SPEAKING OF ELGIN TOWNSHIP!!!!: If you will bring us small-sized bagged or canned dog/cat food, we will see to it Elgin Township receives it for their program to help dogs and cats living with loving hoomans who could use a little help to feed them. You can also always take it directly to their offices at 729 S. McLean Blvd. THANKS!
Please note that the only dogs allowed in the building are those "participating," and, of course, service dogs. Please leave your pets at home. Thank you!
