Tuffet Stool - Workshop One
with Sheryl Hilash
Saturday June 28
www.focusonfibreart.org
Description
Each student will make one fully completed tuffet in this one-day class.
These tuffets were made by students at the class last year.
What Does the Student Bring to Class?
Participants will be required to bring a sewing machine, typical sewing/quilting supplies and tools including a cutter, ruler/grid that is at least 2 ½” wide x 17 ¾” long as well as a 10 degree wedge ruler. There are a number of companies that make a 10 degree wedge including Phillips Fibre Art, Fons & Porter, Creative Grid, etc. As long as the wedge is 10 degrees (you may use a 9 degree ruler as well BUT you cannot use a 22 degree ruler), the manufacturer doesn’t matter although my preference is the Phillips Fibre Art 10 degree ruler.
A medium/large cutting mat is recommended/required. If participant’s sewing machines include a device for guiding a ½” seam allowance, they should bring that as well but alternative approaches to ensuring a ½” seam allowance will be available in class.
Student may bring their own legs (4 legs are required per tuffet). Legs can be bought at Home Depot, Amazon, etc. We will also have some sets of legs available for purchase.
Fabric. Jelly rolls will work.
Bring your lunch and indoor shoes.
Is there a Kit Available?
There is a kit available and it is included in your registration fee. The instructor will bring tuffet kits which includes everything except the legs and fabric. Tuffet kits are $125 each (additional kits will be available for sale)
The tuffet form is made of high density form (18" in diameter, properly shaped and covered with batting over a 3/4" plywood base.
