Did you know there have been 140 species of birds recorded in White Mud Creek Ravine South? We will identify as many as we can in this mixed wood riparian habitat, running along White Mud Creek. Did you know there have been 7 types of Woodpeckers recorded here? We will look for and identify as many as we can and discuss the signs to look for including which bark foraging patterns and sizes and shapes of holes indicate the presence of which Woodpecker to look out for. We will also be on the lookout for Boreal Chickadees, Eastern Phoebes, Yellow Warblers, Cedar Waxwings, Western Tanagers and many more. We will learn the keys to ID these birds and more based on shape, sound, habitat and behaviour.

We will learn the keys to becoming a better beginner birder together, including where to look for what types of birds in the tree canopy, the ethics of birding, how your birding can positively affect birds, field marks, habitat, and migratory species we may see in the forest , on the creek and flying over head at this time of year. We will demo community science apps in the field to ID birds using sound, using a field guide and community science apps. We will enjoy slowing down, tuning our senses into the boreal forest and being immersed in nature together . Please dress for the weather, White Mud Creek trail is fairly flat but there are a few sloped sections that may require proper footwear. We are proud to be members of Indigenous Tourism Alberta.
