The history of mad art (also called Outsider Art, or Art Brut) tells a story of human suffering suffused with great talent and creativity. Join artist Ian Macintosh as he explores the history of this artform.
Ian Macintosh is a fine artist and graphic designer specialising in painting with acrylics and drawing. Ian grew up in the Isle of Man, where his love of the island's lush scenery contributed to an interest in the visual experience. He went on to study the History of Art & Architecture at the School of World Art Studies & Museology within the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. He completed his studies at the Norwich School of Art and Design. Since then he has concentrated on individual fine art encompassing painting and drawing, while retaining an interest in design.
Please note: This event explores experiences of madness, mental health, trauma, and social injustice. Some material may be challenging or sensitive. We invite you to care for yourself in the ways you need — you are free to step out, take breaks, or leave at any time. Supportive collective members will be available if you’d like to speak to someone.
