WHO wants to win £500 in the new Open Series which kicks off at 1pm on Saturday (January 10) at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club?
There will be no increase in the entry fee of £15 because of the excellent support the popular competition receives. And the total prize money of £2,235 is now guaranteed, rather than ‘subject to entries’.
The format is a handicapped straight knockout with a Plate for those players losing their first match. Most matches are best of threes. Handicaps are automatically adjusted weekly by a clever spreadsheet. No age limit. No pre-registration. No dress code. No miss rule.
Free practice tables are available, subject to customer bookings, until both finals end around 6pm.
Non-members can enter but they pay an additional guest fee of £4.
How do the handicaps work? New players are assessed by the organisers. Then all players for each event start with two points and earn another three points for each match won in the main competition and one point for each match won in the Plate.
Every Saturday night, the clever spreadsheet calculates the average points won by each player and adjusts each handicap by half of the difference between the average points won and the actual points won by each player.
The Open Series was launched in 2009. Each series lasts for 26 weeks. This will be number 38.
