Internationally acclaimed “speaking drummer” and rhythmic storyteller Sean Noonan unveils his groundbreaking solo project, Silo: Episodes for Solo Speaking Drummer — a genre-bending performance that transforms the drum kit into a one-man theatre of sound, speech, and imagination.
Blending powerful polyrhythms, spontaneous narration, and surreal humour, Silo draws on the ritualistic traditions of African griots, the absurdist theatre of Samuel Beckett, and the rhythmic innovations of Milford Graves. Each performance unfolds like a sonic monologue — a journey where beats speak, grooves morph into characters, and stories emerge through sound.
Inspired by Henry Cowell’s radical ideas of polyphonic rhythm and informed by Noonan’s formative work with Hollywood vocal legend Marni Nixon, Silo challenges the boundaries of contemporary music, merging improvisation, new music, and experimental theatre into an immersive, visceral experience.
