The delightful Jay Artemis Hull & Nan Jackson will step up to the mic as featured poets at the Copper Chimney Poetry Series on Sunday, May 18, from 4-6PM, at the University United Methodist Church (UUMC), 1120 South Hagadorn Rd., East Lansing — right across from the MSU campus and directly north of the Trowbridge Shopping Center.
An Open Mic will take place after a social break. Attendees wishing to share a poem in the Open Mic are invited to drop their names in the multicolored basket on the Gate Table.
The event is free and open to the public. There is ample parking behind the church. Donations to support the series are greatly appreciated.
Nan Jackson grew up with poetry, thanks to her mother. Now retired from teaching mathematics at LCC, her poetry is often inspired by landscapes and lakescapes of the Great Lakes region or by memories of the outdoors in other places she has called home. Nan’s poetry and short fiction have been published in Flying Island Journal, 3rd Wednesday Magazine, Tulip Tree Review, the anthology Rumors, Secrets & Lies (Anhinga Press), Peninsula Poets, the East Lansing Art Festival Poetry Journal, and other publications. If you look very closely, you may be able to see her sidewalk poem, “Shiawassee Street Bridge,” as it fades into the concrete on Lansing’s River Trail.
Jay Artemis Hull is "an occult experience." Their poems have appeared on a sidewalk, in front of a rock, and occasionally in print and online. They cut their teeth with the MSU Slam poetry team. Since then, they have been a Tumblr poet, zine maker, trumpet player, songwriter, and organizer of the “Poets and Coffee” workshop group.
Hope to see you there!
