A little history...
Founded in 1974 in Queens, NY by Michael Farrell, TCRG, the Farrell School of Irish Dance (FSID) recently celebrated 50 years of excellence in Irish dance instruction. FSID dancers have performed at hundreds of Irish festivals, Off-Broadway, and at numerous private and public events across the region.
Michael began his career as a champion dancer under the legendary Cyril McNiff and earned his TCRG certification in 1974. Although FSID started in Queens, the growing interest in Irish dance across Albany and East Durham led to new class locations—and it was in East Durham where Michael met his future wife, Jeanne. Since the mid-80s, FSID has been rooted in East Durham and Albany, becoming a beloved part of the Irish-American community.
A Family Tradition
The Farrell School is deeply family-oriented, with Michael’s sisters, daughters, and lifelong friends all contributing as teachers, performers, and mentors. His wife Jeanne, while not a dancer herself, plays an essential role in leading the school and running Head for the World, a respected Irish dance supply company.
FSID has become a multi-generational institution—former students return to enroll their children and grandchildren, and many have become assistant teachers pursuing their own certifications.
