2-Day Workshop: Thursdays June 12th & 19th 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Weaving, off loom and basics of basketry as both a skill and art form on Roycroft Campus.
Learn the basics of basketry and off-loom weaving techniques while marrying form and function. Over the course of two sessions, students will learn basketry construction and make a lovely rope bowl using basic warp and weft and twining techniques. Firm enough to hold its shape, and soft with neutral tones and reflective light, it’s a super simple project for beginners who have no weaving knowledge that yields an elegant result, and easier on the hands than traditional reed or rush materials. A light introduction into basketry as an art form and a discussion of “off-loom” or abstract form is also part of the learning experience.
Finished bowl depending on student preference: Students should bring 1 non-breakable bowl to use as a mold to make their own custom bowl. Maximum size, 12” rim x 5” height. All supplies and materials provided
Registration is required. This workshop is open to those ages 16- adult. Series Tuition $90
This workshop will take place on the Great Lawn of The Roycroft Campus, whether permitting, or in the Castiglia Art Center. The Historic Roycroft Campus is located at 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY 14052
