YOU are most cordially invited to "Poetry & Pie" w/ featured poets Joyce Benvenuto & Jan Shoemaker, PLUS an Open Mic in which you are invited to share a poem. The reading will take place on Sunday, April 27, from 4-6 PM, in the Copper Chimney Lounge of the University United Methodist Church (UUMC) located at 1120 South Harrison Rd, East Lansing — across the street from the MSU campus and directly north of the Trowbridge Shopping Center.
Joyce Benvenuto is the author of 4 books of poetry: "A Grand River," "Poem Journey," "Road to Duncan," and "Passage (with frequent stops)." Now retired after a career spent teaching literature and creative writing in high school, she lives in 4 different regions of the USA—Michigan, Vermont, Arizona, and sometimes Texas—writing and sharing her poetry with a variety of audiences. Benvenuto founded the Lansing Capital Area Poetry Contest for high school students that has continued locally for 20 years.
Jan Shoemaker is the author of two essay collections, Flesh and Stones: Field Notes from a Finite World and Slow Learner, as well as the poetry collection, The Reliquary Earth. Recipient of the Greater Lansing United Nations Association’s Loy LaSalle Award for Outstanding Contributions to Global Education and International Understanding, she was also awarded Confrontation Magazine’s Poetry Award.
