The History
Durham, once known as one of the original “Black Wall Streets,” was a hub for jazz and swing dancing during its heyday. Many of the great musicians of that era toured through this city—and some even played in the very venue we use today. At Flying Home, we intentionally hire musicians, instructors, and staff who honor and uplift that cultural legacy.
The Feeling of Coming Home
Our dance family is spread across the globe, and sometimes it's only at events like this that we’re reunited. We want you to feel like you've flown home—welcomed with open arms, familiar faces, and shared joy on the dance floor.
The Belief that Jam Circles Are for Everyone
When the music hits just right and the circle forms, magic happens. We believe everyone belongs in that circle: new dancers, seasoned performers, all gender identities and expressions, all abilities, races, religions, and economic backgrounds. Whether you're in the spotlight or cheering from the edge, that circle is yours too.
