As part of the RMA Young Artists’ Project, the KZNSA gallery will be hosting YAP Unplugged this coming First Friday. YAP Unplugged is a relaxed, honest conversation with our RMA YAP artists recipients, Zama Cebsile Mwandla, N'lamwai Chithambo, Lindani Nyadeni and Jessica Bothma, in conversation with our 2025 YAP Mentor curator Thobekile Shange.
What does it mean to make socially engaged art in a world that often values profit over purpose? How can artists keep pushing boundaries when the art world feels increasingly commercial? What does care and responsibility look like in our creative practices especially when many artists are navigating precarity? These are some of the key questions they will be talking through.
This hybrid session is for anyone interested in the role of art in society, and how institutions like the KZNSA and projects like RMA YAP can support bold, meaningful work.
At the end we will shift gears with a sip-and-paint-style making workshop a chance to unwind, connect, and create together in a fun, informal setting. Materials will be provided, and no experience is needed.
