About the event

Beaded Kumihimo Bracelet
Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese braiding technique traditionally used to create decorative silk cords. Today, many materials are used for kumihimo braids – from yarn and ribbon to leather cords – and beads are often incorporated for extra bling. In this hands-on class, you'll learn how this versatile technique can be used to create everything from intricate jewelry to functional items like leashes and shoelaces.

What to expect:

A brief introduction to kumihimo history and its modern-day applications.
A demonstration of how to set up your kumihimo disk and basic braiding maneuvers.
Instruction on how to incorporate beads in your braids.
Hands-on practice to build your braiding skills.
You'll leave with a unique hand-braided bracelet, your kumihimo disk and bobbins for future projects, and a new creative technique for your textile toolbox

Your instructor, Peyton Waggener, is a dedicated fiber artist with a deep love for the textures and colors that come alive through her work. Peyton finds magic in every fiber, from the delicate sensation of silk slipping through her fingers while spinning to the tactile joy of felting wools and weaving cotton. She teaches many textile techniques, including knitting, needlepoint, cross-stitch, spinning, dyeing, Kumihimo braiding, and sewing, with a special focus on hands-on learning and creative expression.
