TK Cowan Race 2025

Hill City-University's annual cross country race was once used by the Presbyterian Harrier club to find the town's toughest runners to send to a national Presbyterian cross-country meet. The course had it all, road, grass, mud, gravel, sand dunes, and hills.

Nowadays, we've made it a bit easier to reduce traffic management requirements (but not too easy!) whilst retaining the unique character of one of our most iconic events. This handicap, named after club stalwart Professor TK Cowan, captures some of the very best of Dunedin's sand dunes and the Peninsula coastline. Join us for an afternoon of gritty but enjoyable running on Saturday!

Ocean Grove, Tomahawk Domain Hall. The hall will be open from 1:30pm. All events start at 2:15pm

All events are handicapped, with the aim that all runners finish at the same time. This event is free to all participants.

Race options: ~8km run, ~5.5km run or walk, ~1.5km run or walk.

Participants from all clubs (and unregistered participants) are warmly welcomed. Eligibility for the awards and trophies historically associated with the race are however specifically for Hill City-University members.

Please bring a plate for a shared afternoon tea after the race.
