The “S’more Time with Jesus” Vacation Bible School at Little Prairie UMC, scheduled from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, July 31, 2025, offers a delightful blend of spiritual emphasis and fun, all wrapped up in a camping theme. We will be singing camp songs and writing one with Father Ron Johnson.
Each evening begins with a communal dinner from 5:30 to 6:00 pm, where participants can share a meal and fellowship. The evening officially kicks off at 6:00 pm around the campfire in the Sanctuary, where everyone gathers for a brief introduction to the day’s theme accompanied by stretching exercises and uplifting songs. We draw inspiration from 2 Corinthians 5:17, focusing on the transformative power of being in Christ, symbolized through the theme of becoming a new creation.
Day 1, titled "Glory of God and a New Creation in Christ," explores Psalm 19:1-6 alongside 2 Corinthians 5:17. Participants will create bead nametag necklaces and try leaf printing in Arts & Crafts, emphasizing creativity and personal expression. In Science/Nature, making ice cream in a bag adds a sweet touch of discovery, while storytelling brings biblical tales to life. Games offer a chance for energetic engagement, rounding out the evening before the closing campfire, where the day’s experiences are recapped through song and dialogue.
On Day 2, the theme "Who’s Cooking Breakfast on the Beach?" draws from John 21:1-14, focusing on Jesus’ post-resurrection appearance. Arts & Crafts continue to inspire, while Science/Nature introduces fire popcorn, teaching both patience and excitement. Storytelling and games further animate the biblical narrative, fostering camaraderie and reflection on Jesus’ nurturing presence.
Day 3 centers on "Jesus Calms the Storm," guided by Matthew 8:22-25. This day’s activities include Arts & Crafts and orienteering in Science/Nature, connecting participants with the wonders of the natural world and the calming force of faith. Storytelling and games continue to engage the imagination, offering lessons on trust and peace amidst life’s storms.
The final day, "Go and Make Disciples!" based on Matthew 28:16-20, encourages participants to reflect on their role in sharing their faith. Activities involve creating meaningful crafts, exploring the significance of rocks in Science/Nature, and absorbing the Great Commission through storytelling and games. Each evening concludes with a closing campfire, a time to sing, reflect, and say goodnight, leaving participants with a sense of community and spiritual renewal.
