Ethels: Bleaklow Head

On a sunny day Bleaklow is a wondrously wild place to explore. On a wet one its precisely as it says, Bleak. A walk on Bleaklow always feels like a true adventure, the wilderness is gripping and full of life. The Pennine Way offers some comfort underfoot as we explore its top. The walk off in the valley feels almost mountainous. 

Bleaklow is not for the faint hearted. We're heading into Open Access country, but fortunately there are paths for us to follow. Its a gradual ascent of the hill, the first hour or so may be boggy. The paved Pennine Way keeps our feet dry. If the clouds are low then it can feel quite sinister without anything distinctive in sight. All ground is uneven and we will be following a mixture of narrow paths, paved paths, and farm tracks.
