Why we chose each artist
Sun Centauri is an R&B act that blends the talents of Alyx Rush (vocals) and Jim Swim (production). Alyx’s vocal acrobatics give a little bit of Channel ORANGE-era Frank Ocean and the production recalls Purity Ring, and their execution feels distinct and fresh and perfect for late-summer nights. Their new album Flux4D has been on repeat at our office and their performances are magnetic and heartfelt. Check out their tracks Can’t be Blamed and How Long.
Arc Numbers is a project of Dubuque legends Bob Bucko Jr. and Kristina Marie Castañeda that brings together Bob’s spacey production and multi-instrument virtuosity with Kristina’s stunning voice and engaging style. Their sets give Madonna’s Ray of Light, 2000s indie rock, and Rent-era show tunes. It’s a wild and entrancing mix that you have to see to really understand. In the meantime, check out their tracks Where Do We Begin and Madame Crown.
Def Sonic’s steady and heavily processed vocals and well-placed samples wash over a vibey, ambient production like waves of nostalgic bliss. The first time we put on their 2025 album (Aesthetically Pleading) we let it go through 3 times without realizing any time had passed. If you love late-career Bon Iver, Phil Collins, and the Chillwave movement, you will love this. Check out their tracks Traces and Neptune Blue.
