About this Event

Join us for the highly anticipated lauch of Theo Dorgan's Comrade, published by Mercier Press. Theo will be in conversation with the wonderful Mary O'Donnell, for what promises to be an engaging and lively evening.

About Comrade:

In this masterful, philosophical thriller, one violent act echoes across four decades. An Irish exile in Paris begins writing his memoir, forcing him to confront the night he shot a policeman and fled to France. Against the backdrop of the Algerian Crisis and May ’68, this haunting meditation on identity, violence and fate asks: do our actions shape us, or are we already who we’re meant to be?

About Theo Dorgan:

Theo Dorgan is a poet with ten collections in print, the most recent of which is ONCE WAS A BOY — chosen as One City One Book 2024 in his native Cork. He is also a translator, editor, non-fiction prose author, essayist, novelist, broadcaster and documentary screenwriter. Volumes of his work have been published in Spanish, Italian, Greek and French, while among his own translations are three collections from the French of Syrian poet Maram al Masri and a version in Irish Gaelic of Lorca’s ROMANCERO GITANO.

About Mary O'Donnell:

Mary O’Donnell has been publishing books since 1990. They include poetry, novels, short fiction collections and dynamic essays. Previously published fiction includes the novels The Elysium Testament and Where They Lie. Her poetry collection Massacre of the Birds has been published in Brazil, where her work forms part of the Irish Studies programme. Her poetry is also translated to Spanish and Hungarian. In 2023 she received an An Post/Irish Book Award for her political poem Vectors in Kabul.
