New Hope AME Church ’s 4th Annual Back-to-School Mental Health Expo
Join us for a powerful and joy-filled day as New Hope AME Church proudly presents the 4th Annual Back-to-School Mental Health Expo: It Takes a Village IV. Every year, we gather to bring awareness to the issues that deeply impact our families and communities. This year, we focus on a topic that touches many lives: Suicide Prevention and Awareness. 🫂
This year’s event will feature meaningful conversations and insights from local and regional leaders dedicated to education, mental health, and community well-being. We are honored to welcome:
Steven Mayhew, our new Division Superintendent of Pittsylvania County Schools, will speak about his passion for youth development and his commitment to ensuring that students’ emotional and mental health needs are supported alongside their academic growth.
Maxine Petty , Community Engagement Specialist and Master of Psychology, will share strategies for building stronger, more compassionate communities.
Kenneth E. Lewis Director of an amazing church-based tutorial program is making a real difference in our communities. He will share how this initiative is helping students grow academically and spiritually, offering a lifeline of support and mentorship.
Veronica Onsurez-Pennell, Chief Clinical Officer at Epic Health Partners, LLC will offer expert insight into the mental health challenges facing our most vulnerable populations and available resources.
You will also hear from national and regional organizations, including:
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
RASP (Regional Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention)
PEATC (Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center) will be attending the 4th Annual “It Takes a Village” Back-to-School Event. They will have a table where you can explore their resources as you prepare for the upcoming school year. Additionally, a PEATC representative will speak at the event, sharing how they support families in navigating the special education and disability services systems. PEATC is dedicated to empowering families to ensure that you are the best advocate for your child. Be sure to stop by their table to meet the PEATC representative, ask questions, and pick up helpful resources!
Many partners and vendors have come together to make this a day of hope, healing, and Christ filled inspiration a day that will educate, uplift, and unite our village.
But that’s not all!!! this is also a day to celebrate and connect as a community! We’ll have:
🎶 A live DJ bringing the energy Don Hartman
🎤 Singing, dancing, and community performances
🎨 Face painting and games for kids
💦 A giant water slide (don’t forget your towel!)
🍽️ A free lunch and refreshments for all guests
👕 Free clothes and shoes
Haircuts and hairstyles with Dr. Janice Evans
To keep things organized and age-appropriate, children will be grouped by:
Pre-K to 5th grade
Middle and High School students
🙏 This is a church event, and we ask that you govern yourselves accordingly. Come with a loving heart, an open mind, and a spirit of unity. We will need volunteers—because it truly takes a village, and we are only as strong as our weakest link.
