IN PREPARATION FOR THE CELEBRATION OF WORLD CLEAN-UP World Cleanup Day.
Brief History of World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including marine debris. It was initiated by the Estonian NGO Let’s Do It! World. The first cleanup took place in Estonia on 8th September 2018, mobilizing 50,000 people who collected over 10,000 tons of waste in just one day. The idea quickly spread worldwide, and in 2018, more than 18 million volunteers from 157 countries joined the campaign. Since then, it has grown into the world’s largest civic movement for cleaning the planet, uniting millions of people every September to tackle mismanaged waste, raise awareness about pollution, and promote sustainable waste management practices.
