Join us for this 8 mile walk with stunning views of the Greensand Ridge and a private tour of Tanhurst Estate’s Vineyard.
Starting and finishing at the stunning heart of the Tanhurst Estate with its Vineyard Cafe, we’ll meet Estate Manager George who will walk the vineyards with us, and introduce us to the vines and Estate.
We will then walk some lush wooded trails to Holmbury Hill and its historic position of the Iron Fort. Descending from the hill, we’ll walk along the Greensand Way, and to the picturesque church of Holmbury St Mary. Some steady inclines lead us through some sunken trails, and pasture woods owned by other Estates, and back to the Tanhurst Estate.
We’ll end our walk with a well-deserved break, where you can (at separate cost) sample Tanhurst wines or simply enjoy a hot drink and a snack in their Cafe.
Our Co-host George Chapman, a Chartered Surveyor, has managed land and properties in the Surrey Hills National Landscape (circa 200 properties and 6,500 acres) since 2010, and has a keen interest in woodland management and outdoor recreation. Now working for the family business of Tanhurst Estate on Leith Hill, he is involved primarily with the Vineyard and Winery and its cafe, along with several holiday lets, some of which we will be walking past. He is joining us to tell us all about the Vineyard, estate management and land ownership, and his knowledge of the surrounding area and its woodlands. He will point out any trees of particular interest.
