The NEPA Scene Open Mic has expanded into Dickson City! In addition to hosting Tuesday nights at The V-Spot in Scranton, NEPA Scene has added Monday nights at Union Vapors 570 to its weekly schedule.
This free event gives up-and-coming and established local musicians, comedians, actors, performance artists, magicians, dancers, and more another platform to showcase their talents, meet other artists, and hang out together while giving each act some extra publicity through the live stream and photos.
Sign-ups are from 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m., and while a limited amount of sign-ups may be accepted after that, arriving early guarantees a spot. Every act receives between 10 to 15 minutes of stage time, depending on the turnout for that particular night. The show runs from 8:30 p.m. through midnight. Original material is encouraged.
Everyone participating will be featured in the live stream on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, though some online platforms do not allow copyrighted tracks to be played, so those sets will not appear on the stream. Photos of each act will be made available for download in the NEPA Scene Open Mic Facebook group, giving artists professional shots that they can use for their own promotion.
"Union Vapors has become an important new player in the local music and arts scene, from initially sponsoring independent shows to hosting them now, so when they asked us if we'd be interested in bringing our popular open mic nights to their venue, I jumped at the chance to work with them," said NEPA Scene editor Rich Howells, who hosts the event.
"Attendance at our first NEPA Scene Open Mic continues to be steady, so we're happy to provide a second night each week to meet demand. Union Vapors has a great wide-open, well-lit space, a professional sound system, and a lounge area to hang out in. Those who may be looking for an alternative to the typical venue spaces in the area will find a lot to love here."
All artists and attendees must be 21 or older. Water, soda, and craft alcoholic beverages from Space Time Mead & Cider Works will be available for purchase.
The venue provides a soundboard, sound system, three microphones, two standard instrument cables, and a house drum kit. Full bands are welcome to perform. Those who have pre-recorded music or backing tracks can bring them on their phone or laptop; NEPA Scene has audio cables ready to plug devices directly into the soundboard. If any other equipment is needed, performers must bring it with them.
