At our July open hive we discovered that one of the hives was without a queen. As there were no queen cells on the frames for the colony to develop a new one, we decided to purchase a new queen and introduce her into the colony. This was done a few days after the last open hive event, and it's time for us to go in and check on her progress.
Our third open hive of the season will be Saturday August 9th at 10AM. Location is the Joe Shurburne Memorial Garden on Ripley Road(aka the Dexter Community Gardens). As always, this is open to the public and everyone with an interest in bees and beekeeping is welcome to attend. Remember to bring protective equipment like a bee veil or bee suit. Hope to see you there.
