The Deep End Cafe

VIRID and David Minnix will be celebrating the release of and performing their evening length, original work Slow Images, joined by Arabic experimental/electronic duo Taqsim.

---------------------------
Slow Images explores memory and sensations of texture through imagery. Each movement contains structured improvisations written in response to images with distinct characteristics. The photos were collected and compiled by the group and depict personal instances of fleeting encounters with striking environments. One finds that the longer they gaze at one of these photos, the more intrigue it offers, thus giving the record its sense of endless peculiarity.
---------------------------
Based in Southeast Michigan, the percussion and multimedia duo VIRID explores the space in between electronic music and classical percussion. Amorphous yet always compelling, the duo is committed to experimentation, incorporating a blend of songwriting, electroacoustic production, and improvisation into their unique sound worlds.
---------------------------
David Minnix is a composer, performer, producer, and instrument designer based in Ann Arbor, MI. David has a passion for writing for and performing with the modular synthesizer, livecoding improvised music with Tidalcycles, and creating new musical instruments out of salvaged electronics. David's work combines electronic and acoustic improvisation and seeks to create organic textures from synthetic parts. David also operates the instrument company Fell House Audio. He holds a M.A. in Media Arts from University of Michigan and a B.A. in Physics from Earlham College.
---------------------------
Taqsim, meaning “improvisation” in Arabic, is inspired by the textures of Arab folk melodies and the need to find healing and home. Their sounds connect Detroit to the restless and resilient energy of Beirut’s underground music scene using synthesizers, sampled drums, and soundscapes.
