Join us May 3rd at xBk for a kid-friendly, morning album release party. Doors open at 10am, with DJ Kitty Cat Twins playing kid favorite dance hits, then Derry & the Dirty Dishes will go on at 10:30am sharp, to cater to low attention spans and patience levels, and we’ll have you home before lunch and nap time. Note: hearing protection is recommended for little ones. While we’ll do our best to keep volume at a kid-friendly level, this is a full rock band with drums and guitars.
Derry & the Dirty Dishes is a new Des Moines rock & roll band for kids and grownups alike. Fronted by Derek Muse Lambert, their debut album Three Day Weekend is full of fun and playful songs written by Derek and his wife Ramona Muse Lambert. The songs emerged organically over the years in their musically-centered household with their three children, who helped write some of the songs and who’s reactions to the music provided natural guidance as to what styles kids would dance to and what lyrical content got the biggest laughs and smiles. Stylistically, Three Day Weekend is a wild journey ranging from raucous, kid-friendly punk to playful indie rock to quirky folk/country. It’s imaginative lyrical subject matter ranges from tales of a baby stealing a minivan to hang out with cats, the magic of a garbage truck, toddlers eating sticks of butter, and more. The album was created in collaboration with the Muse Lamberts’ own children and friends’ children, from the creation of the songs to the backing vocals to the album artwork, with the intention to create something that truly resonates with and excites kids, and never condescends to them. Having themselves been subjected to countless hours of popular kids' music on repeat, the Muse Lamberts also set out to create a sound that may come as a breath of fresh air to parents in similar circumstances, or even non-parents in touch with a fun and playful spirit.
