We Have Always Existed

‘We Have Always Existed’ is a body of work by local queer, trans artist, Devin Kane, completed in response to their frustration at the worsening dehumanisation of trans people and attacks on the community. ‘We Have Always Existed’ is comprised of ten artworks that attempt to rehumanise trans & non-binary people in an era of vilification and aggressive politicisation of our identities whilst simultaneously returning a fragment of autonomy to each participant in the project. The project emphasises that we are not a radical ideology, we are not a new concept nor are we meant to be held up to be exemplar of progressive politics. We are simply people that have always existed.
