βBoker Tov my friends!
It's that time of month again for us ladies to gather for Rosh Codesh and share our insights on the month of Av. Robin has already given us lots of good info to reflect upon.
Av: "The Comforting Father"---Don't you just love that.π
The Jewish month of Av, the fifth month of the Hebrew calendar, is often viewed with a sense of duality, as it encapsulates both profound mourning and hope for future redemption. The most prominent observance during this month is Tisha B'Av, the 9th of Av, a day of fasting and communal lamentation, which commemorates the destruction of both the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem, along with numerous other tragedies throughout Jewish history. This period, known as the Three Weeks or "bein ha-Metzarim" (between the straights), beginning on the 17th of Tammuz and culminating in Tisha B'Av, is characterized by a reduction in joyous activities, serving as a time for introspection and repentance, reflecting on the reasons for these past misfortunes.
Despite the sorrow associated with the beginning of the month, Av is also known as "Menachem Av" β the comforting Av (Father)β because it holds within it the promise of eventual consolation and redemption. This is particularly highlighted by Tu B'Av, the 15th of Av, which in ancient times was considered one of the happiest days of the year, marked by dancing in vineyards and matchmaking. This shift from mourning to joy signifies the resilience and hope that define Jewish tradition, emphasizing the belief that even amidst sorrow, there is always the potential for healing and a brighter future.
Please join us this coming Wednesday, at 6pm at OAM.
You don't want to miss out on all the good food, laughter, fun, and incredible wisdom that each lady has to bring to the table.
