About the event

Foraging Series: From Backyard to Wild
Join us for one or both of our Foraging FED Workshops this May, to learn about foraging in your backyard and in the wild!

About this Event

Discover the edible abundance all around you in this two-part foraging series through our FED Workshop programming! Join us for a hands-on experience as we explore the art of foraging, from your own backyard to the wild landscapes of Colorado.

Part 1: Foraging in the Wild, May 15th
Venture into nature with Andy from Foraged.com for a wild foraging experience near Chatfield Park. Andy will familiarize you with wild edible plants and foraging concepts through an introduction, then lead an hour-long foraging walk through the natural landscape. Afterward, enjoy a cooking demonstration highlighting the uses of wild-harvested ingredients.

Part 2: Foraging in Your Backyard, May 29th
Led by Kate, the Urban Forager, this session will take place at a local farm, where you'll learn how to identify edible plants right outside your door. After an introduction to foraging, we'll embark on a guided hour-long walk to spot backyard, wild edibles. The experience will conclude with a cooking demonstration featuring simple, delicious ways to use your foraged finds.

Both sessions will equip you with practical knowledge and confidence to begin your own foraging journey — whether in your backyard or deep in the woods.

Pleasae Note: Exact locations will be shared after tickets are purchased. And, when you purchase a ticket, make sure you are picking the date you want to attend.

About Our Instructors:

Kate Armstrong

Since 2009, Kate has been teaching about wild plants for edible and medicinal purposes as well as leading walks in the Denver area as the Urban Forager. She grew up on a small, diverse farm in the 1950’s learning about plants from both her mother and grandfather, who started the botany department at Furman University. Building on this foundational knowledge, she has since acquired 3 degrees pertaining to teaching, received a Master Composter certificate from DUG, helped to implement a sustainability committee initiative in Edgewater, and currently teaches a variety of local courses. Kate currently instructs on topics such as salve making from common plants, canning and preserving foods, composting skills, and foraging in urban environments. Her depth of knowledge on local plants is bountiful and abundant. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from such a well-rounded, interesting urban forager!

Andy Conner

Andy is the co-founder and head of product for Foraged. With the help of Jack Hamrick, he set out in early 2021 to build a marketplace community of like-minded food entrepreneurs who are collectively altering the food industry as we know it to be more traceable and local. Prior to starting Foraged, Andy worked as a full-time web developer and published nature photographer traveling to beautiful and remote locations around the US. When he isn’t working on Foraged, you can find Andy in the woods with his dog Luna looking for delicious wild edibles or photographing beautiful natural landscapes far from the beaten path.
