About the Show:
Native Gardens is a biting and hilarious comedy that follows two neighboring couples—one older and established, the other young and Latinx—as their backyard boundary dispute turns into a cultural and generational clash. It’s a timely, witty exploration of class, privilege, and the American dream.

All roles are available.
Actors will be asked to cold read from the script—no monologues or prepared pieces necessary. Sides will be provided at the audition and online. Please be prepared to read for the characters you are interested in from the provided sides, which can be found at

Character Descriptions:
TANIA DEL VALLE – (Mexican-American- any ethnicity, late 20s–early 30s)
A strong-willed and passionate PhD candidate who is pregnant and environmentally conscious. She believes in equity, sustainability, and standing her ground—literally and figuratively.
PABLO DEL VALLE – (Chilean-American- any ethnicity, early 30s)
Tania’s husband, a rising attorney from Chile trying to establish himself in a prestigious law firm. Charming, ambitious, and under pressure to succeed, especially as they expect their first child.
VIRGINIA BUTLEY – (European-American- any ethnicity, 50s–60s)
A polished, intelligent engineer with a no-nonsense attitude. Progressive on paper, but deeply tied to tradition and social norms. Proud of her community and her meticulously kept yard.
FRANK BUTLEY – (European-American- any ethnicity, 60s–70s)
Virginia’s retired husband, a gentle suburban gardener with a big heart and a deep emotional attachment to his plants. Tends to avoid confrontation, but cares deeply about appearances and legacy.
THE LANDSCAPERS (2 roles, any gender, any age/race)
These silent characters are the unsung heroes of the backyard drama. Using physical comedy, timing, and expressive reactions, they help advance the plot and amplify the show’s humor and tension—often stealing scenes without saying a word. Great roles for actors with strong movement or mime skills.
All auditioners will be considered regardless of race and gender.
