When love tangles with destiny—whether hiding forbidden magic in a deadly court or facing an old enemy for the sake of a long-lost flame—some bonds refuse to break, no matter the cost.
Undead Gods by Caitlyn Battelle: In the soot-drenched kingdom of Kava, Elysia Parker hides a dangerous secret—magic long outlawed by the silent undead gods. Cursed and concealing her power within the royal court, she sets her sights on the crown and its prince, even as her magic threatens to expose her. Torn between survival, forbidden love, and a quest to break her curse, Elysia must face deadly truths that could cost her everything.
Still Chosen by Stephanie Olson: Twenty years after dying to save her world, Phoebe is a queen craving peace—but when signs of her old enemy’s return surface, she’s called back to the fight she thought was over. With faded magic, fractured friendships, and a past love long lost, Phoebe must confront the truth: once you’re The Chosen One, you always are—and destiny doesn’t care if you’re ready.
Caitlyn grew up on faeries, folklore, and late-night reads. Her dream is to write fantasy stories that will keep you turning the page long after everyone else is asleep. She lives with her partner, tripawed floof of a dog, and the world's friendliest tuxedo cat. If you can't find her, then she's probably escaped to the forest, but will provide updates from @caitlynbattellebooks on social media. Stephanie Olson (she/her) is a fantasy and horror author, voice actor, and 2010 Luther College grad. She has a short story published in Spontaneous Combustion Volume II by Sic Semper Serpent and has written numerous episodes for the award-winning horror anthology podcast, Ghost Wax. Still Chosen: Another Unwanted Adventure is her first novel. Stephanie lives in Minnesota with her equally talented husband and not-at-all talented dog.
Joining Caitlyn and Stephanie in conversation is local literary advocate Elise Skellenger, a local realtor with Harman Realty who also coordinates the Oneota Film Festival. She has lived in Decorah for 17 years and enjoys being involved with the community. When she isn't working, she enjoys knitting, quilting, and reading.
Join us in celebrating of Bookstore Romance Day, a day designed to give independent bookstores an opportunity to celebrate Romance fiction—its books, readers, and writers—and to strengthen the relationships between bookstores and the Romance community.
