We'll meet in the parking lot at the corner of McConnell Drive and Mason Mill Rd, near the DeKalb Tennis Center.
3-mile, 5-mile, and 6-mile routes.
Light fluids and refreshments follow the run.
Run Description
"Before Peachtree Street there was Peachtree Creek."
Welcome runners and walkers to the South Peachtree Creek Trail. The Peachtree Creek watershed covers over 86 square miles. This run is the antidote to putting miles in alongside of the air & noise pollution from vehicular traffic. With 75% of the route off-road It’s the much needed answer to pounding the pavement. And beneath a lush canopy of towering trees you’ll find natural shade and a tranquil invitation to rejuvenate, recharge, and restore.
This run features over a mile of boardwalk through a floodplain forest and over wetlands. 5 milers will pass Clairmont Lake, circle Chandler Lake, and stop to visit a waterfall.
Runners should keep an eye out for native wildflowers, mature hardwood trees, and views of Burnt Fork Creek. This space includes red maple, Eastern cottonwood and a hardwood Piedmont forest. This healthy floodplain forest is home to wildflowers, laurels, and some beautiful beech trees. There are wetland overlooks for spotting wildlife including a diverse range of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians including the American bullfrog and the Eastern narrowmouth toad. The preserve's varied habitats, including pine forest, uplands, and floodplain, support a mix of native and non-native species.
