Formerly known as simply “The Marketplace,” this year we name it boldly and truthfully: Nagy Market. A Christian marketplace filled with joy, prayer, and purpose—created to honor Juneteenth by transforming history into healing.

📖 Why the name “Nagy Market”?
The market is held on John Nagy Drive (on the backside of City Hall Artspace Lofts) —named after John J. Nagy, Dearborn’s first recorded urban planner. During his tenure under the Hubbard administration, the city became the center of the Amen v. City of Dearborn (1973) case, in which residents—many Arab American and low-income—challenged discriminatory planning policies that made their neighborhoods unlivable. They fought back.
🏛️ The court ruled that Dearborn violated due process, affirming residents’ right to fairness, dignity, and protection. Though the case did not officially find racial discrimination, it exposed the damaging impact of urban renewal tactics on marginalized communities.
Today, Nagy Market reclaims that legacy—not by erasing the past, but by transforming it into sacred soil for new seeds of justice, joy, and holy entrepreneurship.
