Seeking one woman and five men. Race is not relevant to any role. All races & ethnicities are encouraged to audition. As always, playing age does not necessarily limit actor age. The play is set in London in the 1950s. All characters speak with a "standard" British accent except Max, who is American. Hubbard’s and Thompson’s accents could tend toward a lower class.
> MARGOT
30s. Not a strong woman, trying hard to believe her marriage to Tony is good (not knowing he plots to murder her for her money), while fighting her affection for the more interesting Max. Despite her apparent fragility, she manages to K*ll her assailant in a violent fight (to be staged by Kayla Graham).
> TONY
30s. A recently retired professional tennis player, with a winner’s arrogance. He is a careful planner and quick thinker who appears to succeed in his goal to rid himself of his wife
> MAX
30s. A good-looking, amiable American television writer, in love with Margot, recently in London to write for British television. He works tirelessly to clear Margot’s name
> LESGATE
30s. A college schoolmate of Tony’s, with a less than reputable past, hired/blackmailed by Tony to K*ll Margot.
> INSPECTOR HUBBARD
40s or older. An intelligent, methodical police detective, intent on uncovering the truth.
> THOMPSON
Any adult age. A police constable who assists Hubbard
The Play:
The play premiered in 1952 in London and New York to great success, and became a 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film starring Grace Kelly and Ray Milland as Margot and Tony. It is a suspense thriller whose effectiveness will depend on careful, energetic performances within tight direction and effects.
