For centuries people have been celebrating the art of tattooing developed from within our collective ancestral backgrounds. It has now blossomed into different subcultures that shape who we are as individuals via its physical form, homage to community, and performance.
Death or Glory is a tattoo and piercing shop in Davis that has been owned and operated by Phil Geck and Chelsey Daskalos for fourteen years. Built on a strong community and a lot of hard work, Death or Glory features artists of all backgrounds, from fine-line to traditional Americana. The shop takes pride in participating in the upbeat Davis community so this exhibit amongst their peers is instrumental in staying connected to their neighbors.
Phil Geck has been tattooing for 26 years and was always driven by his vision to set up a shop in Davis. Tattooing and music has given him the opportunity to tattoo around the world with gigs in England to Germany. He is a regular exhibitor at tattoo conventions throughout the US.
Cody Kohn has been professionally tattooing for six years and is greatly influenced by skateboarding and music culture. Tattooing allows Kohn to express art and share it with others and this commitment creates a special bond between artist and individual.
Moises Mendez has been tattooing at Death or Glory for seven years. He specializes in tattoos influenced by traditional Japanese art forms.
Ciro, originally from Mérida, Venezuela, began tattooing and has built his career at Death or Glory. His work leans into dark, detailed blackwork; it is organic, raw, and a bit unsettling.
