🤔Why Gastroscope your horse?

1. Early Detection of Gastric Issues:
Gastroscopy allows us to directly examine the inside of a horse’s stomach. Horses can suffer from ulcers, gastric inflammation, or other issues like squamous cell carcinoma, which may not be apparent through external symptoms. Early detection is vital to prevent more serious problems from developing.

2. Pain and Behavior Change:
Horses with undiagnosed gastric issues may show subtle signs of pain or discomfort, including changes in behavior (such as irritability or reluctance to perform), poor appetite, or weight loss. Since horses are often stoic, these symptoms can be missed, making gastroscopy an essential diagnostic tool to identify the root cause of these changes.

3. Tailored Treatment Plans:
Once we have a clear view of the stomach, we can develop a more targeted treatment plan. Whether it’s addressing ulcers with specific medications, adjusting feeding practices, or recommending changes to the horse's exercise routine, gastroscopy helps us fine-tune the approach to improve the horse's health.

4. Prevention and Performance:
Gastroscopy is not only helpful for diagnosing problems but also plays a preventive role. If your horse is an athlete, ulcers or stomach discomfort can significantly affect performance. By performing a gastroscopy, we can proactively address these issues to help maintain peak performance.

5. Stressful Environments or Management Practices:
Horses in training or those exposed to stressful conditions—like travel, changes in diet, or confinement—are at higher risk for gastric issues. A gastroscopy can be an important tool in assessing whether stress-related ulcers are developing, so that appropriate management strategies can be put in place.

6. Monitoring Existing Conditions:
For horses that have been previously diagnosed with ulcers or other stomach-related conditions, regular gastroscopies are vital for monitoring their progress and ensuring that the treatment plan remains effective.
