Basket Making was one of biggest hits at Heritage Days in 2024. Nathan and Stina Jenkins are colorful artisans steeped in the traditions and Irish techniques of making traditional oak baskets. This ACHS History Huddle will feature a basket making demonstration and include the opportunity to purchase finished baskets as part of the day’s programming. Reservations are recommended.
Bodging Bigfoot is Nathan from Page County Va. He grew up in the Shenandoah Valley learning how to work wood and make baskets. His family has been making baskets for generations. They were the Williamsburg Foundation basket makers for several years. He met a county girl living in the city and decided to marry her. Stina is now learning how to make baskets. Our hope is to pass along this knowledge to younger generations before it's gone as we are the last basket makers trained in the old ways. We work in white oak, willow, and bamboo.
Tickets are FREE of ACHS members and a $15 for non members, limited to 40 seats. Reservation required.
Tickets for White Oak Basket Making can be booked here.
