Every summer, from July 1st through August 31st, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) conducts its annual Summer Turkey Brood Survey. This important survey helps KDFWR collect valuable data on turkey reproduction across the Commonwealth.
This year, the Kentucky Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is teaming up with our friends at 3rd Turn Brewing for a unique pint night centered around the Turkey Brood Survey. And here’s the best part — if you participate in the survey, you’ll receive a free drink token at the event!
Join us at 3rd Turn Oldham Gardens on Wednesday, August 27th at 6 PM for “Pints With the Poults.”
How does it work? It’s simple! Between July 1st and August 31st, if you’re spending time outdoors — hiking, camping, fishing, scouting for the Fall, or just enjoying nature — keep an eye out for wild turkeys. If you see a hen with poults (young turkeys), report your observation by filling out the Turkey Brood Survey.
You can participate in one of three easy ways:
Fill out a paper survey and mail it in
Complete the survey online
Use the official app. All the details and submission options are available here:
https://fw.ky.gov/Hunt/Pages/TurkeyBroodSurvey.aspx
Then, just bring proof of your participation to the pint night — a photo of your paper survey, or a screenshot from the website or app — and you’ll get your free drink token. That’s it!
Special Guests & Presentations
We’re also excited to welcome Paul Campbell from Turkeyseason.com, along with a wildlife biologist from KDFWR. They’ll be giving short talks about the importance of the Turkey Brood Survey, what factors contribute to successful broods, the habitats turkeys rely on, and how we can all contribute to turkey conservation year-round.
This is going to be a fun, educational, and impactful evening — and we hope to see you there!
As are all of our Pint Nights, this will be a casual, fun way to meet fellow hunters and anglers, swap stories and learn about BHA and our mission to conserve public lands and waters. BHA members advocate for public hunting and fishing and we work to maintain and improve access to places to hunt and fish. We also speak up for wildlife, guided by the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Finally, we believe in and advocate for fair chase in pursuit of fish and game. If those ideals resonate with you, please come join us to learn more and maybe become part of BHA. This event is open to all and is nationally sponsored by our friends at ONX Hunt, who will provide a free, one-year OnX Single State Premium Membership for the first 15 attendees who initiate or renew a BHA membership at this event.
