Choose Your Own Indigo Adventure

Do you remember the thrill of reading those "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, where every choice you made led to a new and exciting ending? Now, imagine translating that journey to indigo dyeing, one of the oldest and most magical forms of plant dyeing! 🌿✨

Join Providence-based Blue Dog Natural Dye House at Hurricane Hill Farm, a working fiber farm in Cranston, RI, for a hands-on indigo dyeing workshop where you can choose what you dye and how deeply you dye it. Indigo dyeing is an amazing process: dipped fiber leaves the vat a metallic-looking green that gradually oxidizes to blue, and the more you dip, the deeper the blue you get. We'll have some basic resists on hand to help you make your indigo dyes your own.

What to Expect:

• Choose one of three sessions: Select either 11am-1pm, 1pm-3pm, or 3pm-5pm. Each session includes 90 minutes of creative dyeing time. An instruction and facility fee of $50 will be charged per participant in addition to the selected fibers.
• Choose your fibers: For Eventbrite sales, we have added a medium/large cotton tote by default. You may also add additional materials to your adventure at the workshop! See special instructions at the end of registration to "reserve" additional items to dye. You may pay for them separately at the event.
  
  Choose to dye Hurricane Hill farm yarn, cotton bandanas, silk bandanas, or medium/large cotton tote bags. You can choose to dye multiples of the same fiber (like, two skeins of farm yarn) or try a few different fibers (like, a skein of yarn and a bandana). Please select no more than THREE fibers per person to ensure each person has enough time for dyeing. If you are registering multiple people, be sure to enter their fiber order when you register, as well. Blue Dog Natural Dye House must pre-wash and treat all fiber ahead of dyeing.
  
  Fiber prices, inclusive of all dye and pre-treatment, are as follows:
  *Farm Yarn (100 yards of super worsted Leicester Longwool) - $42 per skein
  *Cotton bandana - $15
  *Medium/large cotton tote - $25
  *Silk bandana -$28
  (For those who are dyeing bandanas and have the time, you can also steam in some marigolds and orange cosmos to add some extra botanical flair.)
  
• Meet the Sheep and Learn About a Working Fiber Farm: After your dyeing session, enjoy an encounter with the farm’s heritage breed sheep (Leicester Longwools) and learn about life on a working fiber farm during an engaging 30 minute "farm talk."
• All-Inclusive Experience: We’ll provide all of the materials and guidance you need, whether you’ve dyed before or are trying indigo dyeing for the first time. This workshop is perfect for all ages (children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Come create, explore, and start your own personal indigo dyeing adventure.
