It’s time to dust off your dictionaries, silence your cell phones (or don’t — it’s a stumblethrough), and join us for a wild, semi-organized, and thoroughly charming run-through of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!
This isn’t necessarily your polished performance — it’s a no-frills, scripts-in-hand, laugh-till-you-snort kind of entertainment where the cast improvises their choreography, their blocking, and occasionally, their bee words. In other words: theatre magic in its most chaotic and lovable form.
Expect:
• Occasional brilliance
• Frequent giggles
• Characters who sing better than they spell (or vice versa)
• Unrehearsed hilarity
• And maybe a guest speller surprise 👀
This is a low-stakes, high-fun hangout with friends, theatre lovers, and anyone who wants to celebrate a truly quirky show — and the beautiful mess of putting one together, as well as the memory of Bill Finn.
🎭 DRESS CODE: Come dressed as your character — think middle-school precocity.
Whether that means clip-on ties, awkward cardigans, knee socks, or overachiever accessories, we want you to look like you just spelled “syzygy” at regionals.
Unless you’re playing one of the “responsible” adults — in which case:
• Vice Principal Panch: Business casual or tragically buttoned-up.
• Rona Lisa Peretti: PTA-core.
• Mitch Mahoney: Just… whatever, honestly. The man is busy.
Go as big or as subtle as you like — just show up in the spirit of the Bee. Bonus points for exaggerated accessories and commitment to the bit.
Come cheer us on, spell along (from the safety of your seat), and experience the joy of musical theatre in progress.
Bee there or bee… incorrect.
