Simms Summer Concerts continues Sunday, August 10, at 7 p.m. with Stealing Dan, an ultra-authentic tribute to one of the most iconic pop-jazz bands of all time — Steely Dan.
Stealing Dan delivers fan favourites like “Reeling in the Years,” “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number” and “My Old School,” along with some lesser-known fan favourites. With a devoted following on Vancouver Island and beyond, the band has performed to rave reviews at Vancouver Island MusicFest and the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival.
Joëlle Rabu, Operations Manager for the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival, praised the band’s musicianship: “Stealing Dan embodies the sound of Steely Dan: every note, voicing, nuance, harmonic and rhythmic element was delivered. This music crosses over so many genres — only the best musicians should play it... Stealing Dan is in that class of musicianship.”
Led by vocalist Jim Papp and featuring standout sax, vocals, keys and rhythm, Stealing Dan is a must-see for fans of Steely Dan’s sophisticated sound.
The free Simms Summer Concerts continue most Sundays at 7 p.m. through August. Upcoming performances include Shotgun Kelly on August 17 and the Doobie Brothers Experience on August 24, which will also feature a food bank drive.
