Samy is a victim of the Abundant Life School shooting who has been hospitalized since the tragic events on December 16, 2024. He had made some positive steps forward until early March when he was moved back to ICU. Since then, Samy has been unresponsive.
Pastor Marcio (Samy's church pastor and the family's spokesperson) gave an update at the end of March:
For the past few weeks, Samy has been battling something called Autoimmune Encephalitis, a rare, serious condition that occurs when the immune system attacks the brain. Samy continues to be unresponsive. Samy’s family remains confident in God’s power to heal and they are grateful for your continued prayers. We are living by faith and not by sight and are declaring that our Lord will finish what HE has started in the life of Samy.
Unfortunately, on April 16th (4 months after the tragic event), Pastor Marcio's update was that Samy's condition has not changed - he remains unresponsive and intubated. 🙏🏼

❓ Many ask: How am I connected to Samy? The short answer is the Christian School Community is tight!
⭐The long answer.... Samy was a student at Lighthouse Christian School before going to High School at Abundant Life. He was a grade older than my oldest daughter. All three of my kids were/are students at LCS but LCS only goes through 8th grade. That is where ALCS comes in. Many students transfer to ALCS for high school, like Samy. As soon as I heard, I knew I needed to do something because that is what we do in our school community - we show up for one another.
The United Way fund is there for funeral costs for the victims who lost their lives, medical bills for Samy and the other victims like River and for continuing mental health support for the students and staff. But Samy's family still has rent to pay, food to buy, gas to pay for to get them to the hospital, etc.
💔 Although one of his parents had paid time off, I am sure it has been exhausted by now. As a mom, I cannot fathom having to choose between going to work to pay rent and not being by my child's side as he endures this OR being by my son's side and losing my job, my home, etc.
That is where this event comes in! Let's help raise as much money as we can for Samy's family!
