Join us for an evening of renaissance choral music by Franco-Flemish composer, Orlando Lassus!

The "Imitation Mass" was a popular genre during the renaissance period in which composers would take a contemporary song as the musical basis of a full mass cycle. Anything from popular secular chansons to sacred motets could used as the musical 'model,' on which the mass was based. This particular song, Lassus' own "Susanne un Jour" has been carefully crafted into a full mass, including Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. You will hear how the original piece is woven into each movement of the mass, as Lassus reflects and expands on his own musical ideas.
